A sixth-grade school trip to Cook Inlet in Alaska stumbled across what appear to be ancient human remains.

The students called officials after finding a lower jaw bone Tuesday afternoon, and troopers responding to the scene found other bones partially exposed in a beach-side bluff, Soldotna trooper Jeremy Grieme said.

The body had been buried several feet underground but apparently became exposed during erosion of the surrounding hillside.

“This does not look like it was even a remotely recent burial,” Grieme said.
