The names of thousands of people beheaded during the French Revolution will be made available online for the first time.

“The collection will be of huge interest to the six million Brits with French ancestry, some of whom will be descended from the French citizens who fled to Britain during that period and who may be able to trace a severed link to an aristocrat or a revolutionary.”

A survey of 500 people who have traced their family tree three generations or more and a representative sample of 2,000 Britons found one in ten Britons have French ancestry.
