Six Byzantine and Roman tombs unearthed in Syria

Six tombs dating back to the Byzantine and Roman times have been found in Syria.

Hussein Zen-Eddein, head of the excavations in the city of Sweida, said the tombs and finds, including clay lanterns and bronze bracelets and earrings, belonged to a family cemetery, SANA news agency reported Sunday.

Earlier excavations at the site had uncovered a basalt pillar on which Nabatean words dedicated to a Nabatean god were engraved.

Two other phrases, one in Latin and the other in Greek and referring to the god Jupiter, were engraved on a basalt stone, SANA said.
